Hello my name is Troy Carlton and I have created this painting while listening to Jackie McLean- Hipnosis.. It consists of a mix of acrylic paint, oil paint, and spray paint. The album Hipnosis is a very driving, playful record. I created the composition of this painting by having a base layer then spraying a top layer over it and the scraping it off to reveal the base layer. The bright color choice was to work on the playfulness of the record, while the wispy composition was to indicate the dark subconscious one may reveal while under hypnosis. I hope you enjoy it.
Troy Carlton
Troy Carlton was born and raised in Flint Michigan. Before turning his focus on expression through painting he expressed himself through playing music. As a lifelong musician, he also created abstract watercolors. At some point through his journey, he began using acrylic paints as his medium. Music as it always had been playing a role in the creation of his work. Before beginning new work he selects a record and allows the record to inform him of a feeling he then translates unto the canvas. His work has been described as a stream of consciousness mindscapes. And also emotional environments. His attempt through abstraction is to engage you with a feeling and allow the painting to take you on a journey.
