Born to German/Lebanese parents in Cairo and Swiss by adoption, Charles Georges regards himself as a citizen of a world without borders, a concept that he also applies to his work in which the various aspects merge into an equally seamless whole devoid of limits. He draws on a life that is richly filled with diverse activities and experiences. One might undoubtedly speak of several lives lived in parallel (double university and artistic education, painting, exhibitions, publishing, writing, theatre, interior design, fashion…), but all with creation as their common denominator. For Charles Georges, creation – which is omnipresent – corresponds to a state of mind, a mental structure. This is a universe in its own right and the forms it adopts blend with the history of the world. It is thus that Charles Georges perceives and experiences his own work, with the aim of defining an overall artistic concept. During his many sojourns in Bavaria with his mother’s family, as a youngster he discovered the work produced in the porcelain factory co-owned by his grandparents. Here, he learned the art of painting on porcelain, a material that came to fascinate him. Equally attracted by the world of fashion, at the beginning of the 1980s, he was to have an important encounter in the realm of Parisian Haute Couture. Other avenues opened. He took part in fashion shows, visited ateliers and created dress models. These years of discovery left Charles Georges with a particular interest in the decorative arts and fashion, with painting naturally remaining at the core of all his activities. Writing, another fundamental aspect of his personality and career has also been a key preoccupation for him since his teenage years. The definition of his paintings is as follows: painting for painting, a reflecting on painting and works seen as entities drawing on their own content with play on colours, diverse motifs assembled on the same surface, contrasting materials (oil, acrylic, gouache, pastels, pencils, canvas, paper, cardboard, wood) and references to art history. It is painting, as much in terms of the material and the act itself, that takes center stage. Today, his creation is resolutely focused on this overall artistic universe that is so important to him, naturally with activities and partnerships in the realm of painting, but also in the world of interior architecture and that of fashion.
