Hello my name is Troy Carlton and I have created this painting while listening to the music of Steel Pole Bathtub. This record and this band was huge for me in my youth. And listening to this record brought me joy but also it has a sense of melancholy. With this piece I believe the joy I was feeling won out but i also think it has a mysterious undertone. Troy Carlton was born and raised in Flint Michigan. Before turning his focus on expression through painting he expressed himself through playing music. As a lifelong musician, he also created abstract watercolors. At some point through his journey, he began using acrylic paints as his medium. Music as it always had been playing a role in the creation of his work. Before beginning new work he selects a record and allows the record to inform him of a feeling he then translates unto the canvas. His work has been described as a stream of consciousness mindscapes. And also emotional environments. His attempt through abstraction is to engage you with a feeling and allow the painting to take you on a journey.
