16 Global Design Concepts for an Unpredictable Future

The challenges of the past year gave designers every reason to recede into the shadows, but creativity won’t be denied.

If anything, they are finding inspiration in global upheaval. From hundreds of possibilities, here are just a few examples we selected of projects begun or realized despite closed borders, disrupted supply chains and economic collapse.

Leon Black to Depart as Moma Chairman

Leon Black has told colleagues at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, that he will not stand for re-election to his position as chairman of the museum’s board of directors this June, the New York Times reports. The departure is not unexpected, coming after weeks of sustained pressure from artists, activists, and staff to remove Black as chair owing to his ties to the late disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Artist of the Month: NIKOU

Originally from the south of France, Nikou has been living in Bourgogne for a few years. Her life course has not always integrated paintings or drawings but they have always accompanied her. Nikou practiced for some time painting on porcelain and followed various formations (Manufacture de Sèvres). This activity requires great patience and remains present, but the canvas has taken over her rights...

She works mainly with oil or acrylic. In her studio, she prepares her paintings for a long time, and then she reflects...

Inspiration...

.... it comes from elsewhere, from another time, from another culture, from her childish drawings ... she looks around her, it influences her, it questions her, so she navigates in an imaginary world where, with characters, colors, figures, writings, various forms that roam, organize, disorganize, clash, decompose, overlap... it offers a chaos to which everyone can give meaning.
